Erotic Art… or porno?
I have my daughter in an art class at a local college and the teacher-artist is into to bringing the students to experiment and they try to push the envelop as they know it. The other day a gay male classmate presented a montage of a person’s anus with a fist thrust up it. He sort of made it appear half abstract Folk abstract but the image in it was from a photo and it was explicit. The class was offended I think and didn’t think this was art (they discussed privately after between friends)… they think this person has some kind of mental derangement. The instructor didn’t know how to handle it and just stated that she didn’t know what to make of it. The student produces all kinds of “nasty” stuff and labels it art so he can get away with shocking people and the folks seemed to be too scared to speak up. Just as someone calls something “art” you have the right to argue that and call it something else. Honestly… I think this student is sick. Your thoughts? Is there a line?
